Selfish Grandfather

"Grandpa! Hey Grandpa, what are you doing?" Taka yelled as he scampered up the road towards his grandfather. The lazy lion let out a small growl of annoyance. "Well I was sleeping..." he huffed. Taka climbed up his back side until he reached his bony shoulder.

"Will you play with me, Grandpa?" The cub asked.
"Don't you have a brother you can do that with?" The old lion asked without much enthusiasm. Taka frowned.

"Mufasa's out with daddy again. He says I don't need to come because he's teaching Mufasa how to be King."

His Grandfather huffed. "So that makes me cub sitter does it? Where's your mother?"

Taka frowned again. "Hunting breakfast. Why don't you want to play with me, Grandpa?" he asked, innocently.

"Because I'm old."

For a moment, there was silence.

"Grandpa, why does Mufasa get to be King? What if I want to be King?" Taka finally said, breaking the silence, disappointing his grandfather. He let out an irritated sigh of surrender.

"He does spend a lot more time with him than me...But...what if I was older than Mufasa? Would I become King?" He asked.

"What is this, 50 questions? The only way you'll ever be king is if something happens to your brother."

Taka's became even more curious. "Like what?"

The lion was becoming more agitated now. "I don't know, like if he got bit by a cobra. Now why don't you go see if your mother's back, and get her to bring me something to eat if she is." he grumbled, turning over so that Taka fell off his back.

The cub sat for a moment, thinking about what his Grandfather had said.

"The only way you'll ever be king is if something happens to your brother..."

Maybe Scar's jealousy towards his brother and anger towards his father was influenced by someone else at first....
