The First Lion King

EDIT: changed the tail colour of the left cub to match her siblings and father, and made the cubs head on the right a little smaller. it was bugging me. XD )

The first King and his three daughters. (Since everyone else is doin' it, I thought I'd take a shot and come up with my own designs and story.)

There once was a lion with a mane as gold as the rising sun. When he was old enough to leave his Pride and set out on his own, he knew he was born to be a great leader. As he set out, his friend from cub-hood asked if he could join him. The Golden Lion made it clear he would be the leader of the Pride, and the lionesses belonged to him, and solely him. His friend smiled and agreed, just happy to still be with his pal.

Together they came across the Pridelands. It was being harassed by a clan of hyenas, and all the animals lived in fear. However, they didn't want to leave due to the lushness of the land. With the help of his friend, the Golden Lion managed to chase the hyenas away, and claimed the Pridelands. The animals were forever grateful and loved their new King.

But while the Golden King was golden as the sun, he also has a temper as hot. He noticed a lioness from the pride avoiding him whenever he came around. One day when he went to visit his pregnant queen inside Pride Rock, he noticed the avoiding lioness was also expecting. Enraged, he confronted his friend, who confessed his love for her, and said the cub was his. In his rage, the Golden King banished the lion from the Pridelands.

Weeks went by, and the cubs were born. The queen had three healthy daughters.

The lioness was still depressed over the loss of her mate. After a while, the queen talked her King into sending someone to bring his friend back. The Golden King himself missed his friend dearly, and gave the order. But it was too late.

His friend was found, half eaten by hyenas near the graveyard. Having never been on his own, he'd never had a chance to survive. The Pride mourned, but no one more than the King. He could never forgive himself for what he'd done to his life long friend. He also felt sick in the heart for the lioness that cradled his cub.

In asking for forgiveness from the lioness, the Golden King promised to help raise his friends cub and betroth him to one of his royal daughters. His friend's cub would one day become King, and was a constant reminder to the Golden King to watch his temper and never lose it again, like he did his friend.
